Seniors complete 16th-century boathouse
Former St Augustine mayor George Gardner announced to local Historic City News reporters that upon the completion of the thatched roof at Fuego del Mar, a replica 16th century boathouse at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park, the work crew, and their spouses, held a picnic celebrating their accomplishments.






The Sheriff’s Office is asking Historic City News readers in St Augustine and St Johns County for assistance identifying and locating two suspected burglars captured on surveillance video recently in the Fruit Cove area of northwest St Johns County.
On July 19, at Francis Field in St Augustine, Historic City News reporters attended the St Johns County Chamber of Commerce first Politics in St. Johns event; an opportunity for voters to meet and learn about nearly 30 candidates for political office when they addressed the crowd.

Chamber spokesman, Beau Phillips, confirmed with Historic City News the participant candidates for public office in St Johns County who will be part of Politics in St Johns, tomorrow, July 19, at Francis Field on West Castillo Drive in St Augustine.
Despite the fact that St Augustine and St Johns County residents are admitted without charge at Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park to see the 16th century shipbuilding living exhibit, St Augustine Port Waterway and Beach District refused a request for $5,000 in assistance for continued work on the 37-foot multi-purpose Chalupa and boathouse.
City spokesman Paul Williamson reported to Historic City News this morning that the planned Bridge of Lions 5K Run, set for Saturday, July 21 at 7:30 a.m., will necessitate brief traffic re-routing along St Augustine’s Bayfront, the Bridge of Lions and on streets throughout Davis Shores on the north side of Anastasia Boulevard.
