Testing for illegal drugs in welfare recipients
Although national statistics show that about 8 percent of the general population uses illegal drugs, only 2 percent of welfare recipients in Florida have tested positive since a two-month old law took effect that requires applicants for welfare to pass a drug test.






NPS Ranger Jake Harper invited Historic City News readers to visit and participate in “Spanish Living History Day” on Saturday, October 1st at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument on the bayfront in St. Augustine.


Released under $3,500 bond yesterday, Historic City News has learned that a 31 year-old St. Augustine man was arrested by local police and has been charged with false imprisonment, battery and harassment in connection with a domestic disturbance that occurred last weekend.
Treasurer Lance Thate reported to Historic City News that members of the St. Augustine Tea Party and guest visitors would convene their regular meeting tonight at the Village Inn on Ponce de Leon Boulevard at 7:00 p.m.
Historic City News learned that sometime between midnight and 4:50 a.m. Sunday morning, four men from Hastings decided to go speeding through the streets, damaging and stealing mailboxes and other property, until they were captured shortly after 7:00 a.m.
When Fire-Rescue responded to 28 John Street in St. Augustine at about 8:59 p.m. Sunday evening, Historic City News was told that emergency personnel thought they would be attending a heart attack victim — not a murder victim.
Brian Thompson reported to Historic City News that associate professor of Liberal Studies, Dr. John Diviney, would present a program on “yellow journalism” during the Spanish-American War at Flagler College on October 11, 2011.
