City commissioners Monday will consider an $850,000 request from reserve funds for a six to nine month project that will complete riprap and capping of the former landfill located at the end of Riberia Street.
In this week’s issue of The St. Augustine Report, distributed for the City Department of Public Affairs, George Gardner wrote, “Management of the City’s 450th anniversary will be shifted to a community-based non-profit foundation with expected approval by the City Commission Monday.”
The topic of discussion around the City of St. Augustine recently has centered on the 450th Commemoration, however, the city’s birthday is always one of the most exciting times of the year.
A wide-ranging agenda for Monday’s City Commission meeting includes a public hearing on an ordinance to regulate short term rentals, a strategy to reduce aggressive panhandling, the process for selecting a new city clerk, and three new residential parking spaces along Shenandoah Street.
Loren Townsend Zawawi reports that work has begun on Aviles Street in the heart of downtown St. Augustine and she told local Historic City News reporters that she hopes all goes well for the business owners as the facelift continues during the coming weeks.
Historic City News has learned from Florida Association of Counties General Counsel, Ginger Delegal, that four of the nine constitutional amendments originally slated for the November 2010 General Election, have been challenged in the Florida courts.
