Historic City News received word from Sgt. Charles Mulligan that the Sheriff’s Office is working a bank robbery that occurred this morning at the Bank of America location at Wildwood Drive and US 1 South.

In an editorial that I read in the Gainesville Sun yesterday, the paper asked the Alachua County Board of County Commissioners some tough questions. Questions that – given our current budget situation – should be asked locally.

Historic City News has learned that LAMP archaeologist Brendan Burke just published an article in the July/August 2009 International Ocean Systems Magazine, “the Magazine for Ocean Professionals” (volume 13, number 4).

The City of St. Augustine is taking considerable steps to reduce the amount of pollution that is carried from the storm water system to the local rivers and ocean according to a report received by Historic City News.

Historic City News has learned that Monday’s City Commission meeting will open with a public hearing on architectural style in the historic district and close with commissioners discussing a proposed building at St. George Street and Cathedral Place that ignited the style debate.

City Commissioners will take another look at staff efforts to close an estimated $1.7-$1.8 million shortfall in next year’s budget at a public workshop at 3:30 p.m. in the Alcazar Room on Monday.

Historic City News was notified that in honor of the 19th anniversary of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, Governor Charlie Crist has accepted the 2009 recommendations of the Governor’s Commission on Disabilities.
