St. Augustine’s sensational Nights of Lights holiday display has been illuminating the Nation’s Oldest City for 25-years. This year, Historic City News readers can enjoy the Nights of Lights through February 3, 2019. During Nights of Lights, white lights glow from the sidewalks to the rooftops, over the Bridge of Lions and trail through approximately 20 city blocks in St. Augustine’s Historic District.
The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners celebrated eight years of service by outgoing District 4 Commissioner Jay Morris today during its regularly scheduled county commission meeting in the auditorium of the county administration building.
Raye Annette Brutnell, former executive assistant to Sheriff Perry and Sheriff David Shoar, most recently Shoar’s appointee as Director of Finance for the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office, has surrendered herself to the custody of the Flagler County Jail this morning after she was informed that a warrant had been issued for her arrest. Brutnell just turned 47-years-old last month and has worked for the sheriff’s office since March 5, 1991. In 2005, Brutnell received a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Flagler College.
Historic City News readers turned out by the thousands on Saturday November 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Plaza de la Constitucion to participate in the 25th Anniversary celebration of holiday music and lights when Mayor Nancy Shaver of the City of St Augustine counted down to the official lighting of the city’s Christmas tree, then one of the world’s greatest holiday light displays.

Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.

Historic City News has learned that Andrew Gillum ended his bid to become the first African-American governor of Florida this evening, conceding the race to his Republican rival, former Congressman Ron DeSantis. The contest was one of the most closely watched in the country.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home reported that 73-year-old William Mark Korach II of St. Augustine, passed away November 7, 2018 at Flagler Hospital. He was a Historic City News reader and contributor for several years and had been active in local Republican politics.
