Uptown St Augustine comes alive for Historic City News readers on the last Saturday of each month, at the galleries, antique stores and other unique shops on along San Marco Avenue beginning at Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum; north to the Mission Nombre de Dios.

This morning, Historic City News editor Michael Gold got the call that El Galeon could not make the 11:30 a.m. slack tide in order to arrive in St Augustine as planned; but that did not stop the crew of the 170 foot, 495 ton, detailed replica of ships that brought Spanish explorers and settlers to La Florida 500-years ago — they just had to wait for the next tide.

Kathy Catron, Director of Communications for the Visitors and Convention Bureau at FloridasHistoricCoast.com, announced that tomorrow, about 11:30 a.m., Historic City News readers can watch as El Galeon and her crew sail into the Matanzas Bay; America’s oldest seaport.

The National Geographic Emerging Explorer, Barrington Irving, impressed Historic City News editor Michael Gold Saturday, during two inspirational presentations in the Palencia Elementary School cafeteria; both were part of the St Johns County Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Fair.

On Saturday, Historic City News accompanied third, fourth and fifth-grade students from St Johns County elementary schools who attended the inaugural St Johns County School District Elementary Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Fair; held at Palencia Elementary School.

Several local Historic City News readers reported that they attended this morning’s groundbreaking ceremonies for two news schools located in northern St. Johns County.
