If you are a candidate for a political office, tonight’s candidate workshop, hosted by St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes, was where you needed to be. About 22 St Johns County men and women, veteran reporter Peter Guinta, Historic City News editor Michael Gold, and two senior staff members from the Elections Office, took about 90-minutes explaining all the changes in Florida’s election procedures.

Hutson Bill may eliminate concurrency fees for small developments
It’s not a law yet, but HB-7023, introduced by St Johns County State Representative Travis Hutson, would exempt new developments from concurrency fees, one of many provisions in a large economic development package that passed the House Transportation and Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee yesterday.

Cultural Council reacts to lease questions
During Monday night’s regular meeting of the St Augustine Beach city commission, Dr. David P. Rice, senior pastor for Ancient City Baptist Church, did not rise to the podium to offer an invocation to those attending; he rose, instead, in defense of the St Johns Cultural Council where he serves as president — the beleaguered arts agency in the cross-hairs for their poor evaluations with St Johns County.
