Cultural Council holds planning meeting
Andy Witt reported to Historic City News that the St Johns Cultural Council will hold an arts, culture and heritage constituency meeting on Thursday, August 16 at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Prosperity Bank Community Room located at 790 North Ponce De Leon Boulevard in St Augustine.

Chairman Carl Youman announced to Historic City News reporters that the St Johns County Airport Authority has received the “2012 General Aviation Airport Environmental Project of the Year” award by the Florida Airports Council.
Historic City News in St Augustine has learned that today, following the departure of Commissioner Mark Miner to attend Warrant Officer Flight Training, the St Johns County Board of Commissioners has appointed Commissioner Ken Bryan to act as interim chairman until the end of November 2012; at which time the Board will appoint a new chair.
Veterans gear up to build home
Paul Studivant reported an improvement to the hours of operation at the St Johns County Animal Control and Pet Center beginning September 1, 2012.
Rabbi Merrill Shapiro, President of the St Augustine Jewish Historical Society, told local reporters at Historic City News that this year’s commemoration of 447 years of unbroken history in St Augustine will be expanded to include the possibility, and some suggest likelihood, that it marks the first arrival of Jews in our country, as well.
