Officials investigating cause of early morning fire
St. Johns County Fire Rescue Public Education and Information Officer Jeremy Robshaw informed local Historic City News reporters that at about 2:45 a.m. this morning, members of the City of St. Augustine Fire Department assisted County Fire Rescue personnel at the scene of a commercial structure fire on Vilano Beach.

Two incumbents on the City Commission want to be re-elected — Mayor Joseph L. Boles, Jr., and Nancy Sikes-Kline; however, Sikes-Kline has drawn two opponents for her seat and she will have to either catch 50% of the votes cast in the August 24th Primary Election; or, be one of the two top vote getters in the Primary then win in the November General Election.
Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported to Historic City News that two men are being sought in connection with criminal mischief and an attempted break-in to a Ponte Vedra bank earlier this week.

City of St. Augustine Department of Planning and Building officials tell Historic City News local reporters that they have recently completed the National Register nomination for “Fullerwood Park” which is roughly bounded by the marshes of Hospital Creek on the east, San Marco Avenue on the west, Hildreth Drive on the north and Macaris Street on the south.
“Everybody else has had to tighten their belt because of this economy, but the City of St. Augustine hasn’t,” candidate Charles J. Hennessey told local Historic City News reporters this week as he made his bid for City Commission Seat 5; currently held by Nancy Sikes-Kline.
Historic City News local reporters have learned of a new agreement that will make it easier for students to continue their education at the University of North Florida if they are transferring from St. Johns River Community College after graduation.
