Community kickoff for 450th commemoration

200-450TH-250HPlanning for the commemoration of the city’s 450th anniversary will start with a community kickoff event set for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the Flagler College Auditorium, according to an announcement received by Historic City News this morning from Cathy Dupont in the city’s Office of Public Affairs.

Crays wanted on kidnapping and other charges

Violent Crimes Unit Detective Charles Brantley is looking for 33 year old Shawn Lee Crays of St. Augustine Beach in connection with the MAC tool truck robbery that occurred earlier this year says SJSO Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw.

Historic City News was informed that an arrest warrant has been issued for Crays on charges of kidnapping, grand theft, robbery with a firearm, and carjacking with a weapon. The bonds on those charges total $505,000. Crays is described as a white male, 6’6” tall, 270 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.

Man arrested on felony animal fighting charge

A 52-year old Volusia County man was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of possession of training devices for animal fighting, a third degree felony, accounding to a media resease received by Historic City News this morning.

St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw reported that the suspect, identified as Jamie Alamos, 52, Deleon Springs, was booked into the County Jail and released last night after posting $2,500 bond.

Brunson makes District 5 bid official


Friday was a busy day for County Commission candidate Randy Brunson, according to information obtained by Historic City News from the office of Penny Halyburton, St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections.

Late Friday afternoon, Brunson made his bid for retiring Commissioner Jim Bryant’s seat (District 5) as St. Johns County moves forward into qualifying week for state, multi-county, county, district and political party executive committee seats.

Wanchick tells staff about Manuel investigation

Wanchick this morning in an attempt to clarify events surrounding an article that appeared on the front page of The Record this morning alleging that County Commission Chairman Tom Manuel is the subject of an FBI criminal investigation.

City announces extended shop hours

In an e-mail update from Cathy DuPont, Neighborhood Coordinator in the Department of Public Affairs with the City of St. Augustine, Historic City News was informed that both the Visitor’s Information Center Gift Shop and the Spanish Quarter Gift Shop will have extended hours for the month of July.
