Florida is considering a “Citizen Archaeology Permit” program that would extensively impact archaeology sites on state lands.



Five people were hurt, one seriously in a three vehicle crash that occurred early yesterday evening, according to a report received by Historic City News this afternoon.
If it will just stop raining and warm up a bit, Historic City News readers are accustomed to this time of year for outdoor activities and events leading up to the summer — Celtic Festival, Rhythm and Ribs, Romanza, various marathons, walks and runs, tournaments for fishing, volleyball, and golf.
Subject to legislative funding of Special Category Grant Projects, Historic City News has learned that, at some point during the state’s fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014, St Augustine may receive $175,000, which the city must match, to defray repair and replacement costs of the barrel tile roof over the Lightner Museum portion of the City Hall building.
Last Friday at about 9:00 p.m., two teenagers entered the Florida Cracker Café located at 81 St George Street in St Augustine. They were greeted by 46-year-old manager, Denise Ferguson, who told them, “the kitchen is closed, but y’all can stay for a couple of rounds”.
The St Johns County Chamber of Commerce and St Johns County School Board notified Historic City News that they have recognized seventy-six of the best and brightest local students — representing the top three percent of all graduating seniors in the county.
Flagler College announced to Historic City News that Deputy Consul General of Spain, Javier Pagalday, and about 50 Fulbright scholars from around the world, will attend the combined Florida Chapters of the J. William Fulbright Association for an on-campus meeting next month.
When the Republican Club of Greater St Augustine holds its next meeting, Historic City News has learned that St Johns County Tax Collector, Dennis W. Hollingsworth, will be the guest speaker.
