Valsartan, the active ingredient in brand name Diovan, quickly became one of the most widely prescribed medications in the treatment of heart failure and hypertension (high blood pressure) after the active pharmaceutical ingredient became available off-patent. In the last week, three of the generic manufacturers; Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd., were asked by the US Food and Drug Administration to recall their valsartan products due to detection of a cancer-causing substance.

Colley convicted on two counts of 1st-degree murder

Executive Director Bryan L. Shorstein reported to Historic City News, that 38-year-old James Colley Jr. of St. Augustine was convicted on 2-counts of first-degree murder, 2-counts of attempted first-degree murder, and 3 other felonies, this morning in one of the worst crimes in recent memory in St. Augustine. The jury deliberated for two hours before they found Colley guilty on all counts.

Historic City News learned today that in an email last Thursday to City Manager John Regan, Harold Bishop of Red Moon Properties, LLC, explained; “Due to the latest discovery work done on the building at 9 Aviles, and the resulting steps needed to be in compliance with local and state requirements, we are open to changing our approach from a very selective demolition to a revised demolition plan that would expedite the work.”
