Dear Historic City News editor;
I was one of the few people that regularly attended most of the Confederate Monument Committee meetings and can attest that the committee did not have an easy job.
The City of St. Augustine’s Planning and Building Department reported to Historic City News and local media that they were notified late on Tuesday, July 3, that the project team working on the rehabilitation of a commercial building at 9 Aviles Street had developed “concerns” regarding the building’s stability.
Letter: Plaza concert hijacked on the 4th

I was outraged that the wonderful singers and orchestra, that tried to perform in the Plaza on the afternoon of the Fourth, had practiced and invested so much time to prepare for a performance that was totally ruined.
The Republican Party of Florida’s acting chair in St Johns County, Jerry Cameron, was confirmed by election on Monday evening July 2, 2018, to serve as chairman of the local Executive Committee for the 2018-2019 term.
The United States Department of Justice reported to Historic City News today that 46-year-old Kenneth Brian Hanger of St Augustine, a registered sexual offender, has been arrested and charged by a federal criminal complaint with soliciting child pornography using the internet.
Cindy Walker, Development and Communication Coordinator for the Council on Aging, reported to Historic City News that Judith Geyer Ahlquist, R.N., has been named the new Manager of their Coastal Home Care department.

When living in a city so defined by its history as St. Augustine, it is often easy to forget that what we do today continues to contribute to that narrative. The story is not fully written or done. My hope is that when it is, the community and government’s response will be worthy of the rich history of our city.
