The City of St Augustine Beach invites all Historic City News readers to enjoy today’s Surf Illumination and upcoming Light UP the BEACH events. This holiday season the City has planned several fun events set against a backdrop of colorful lights all along Beach Boulevard.
Wednesday morning traffic on Ponce de Leon Boulevard was interrupted when an Old Town Trolley Tour vehicle caught fire on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard at Rhode Avenue, according to information collected by local Historic City News reporters.
Tuesday evening, Bryan L. Shorstein reported to Historic City News that local resident 57-year-old Grace Ann King was sentenced to serve 15-years in state prison following her August 20, 2021, conviction for DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.
From a special press conference held in (Let’s Go) Brandon, Florida, Historic City News reporters learned that Governor Ron DeSantis has signed, sealed, and delivered a win for individual freedoms in our state through four tough-fought bills recently passed during a special session of the Florida Legislature.
The Office of Public Affairs for St Johns County reported to Historic City News yesterday that readers will be able to enjoy the Mickler’s Landing Beachfront Park during the coming Thanksgiving holiday.

On Friday, November 19, at 8:00 a.m., the city flag poles will fly our Nation’s flag at half-staff in honor of former Mayor Edward “Eddy” Mussallem. We hope our show of respect and gratitude will help bring his family comfort in a difficult time.
For the second time this year, the United States has an imported case of monkeypox. A traveler from Maryland who had recently returned from Nigeria has been diagnosed with the dangerous illness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday. The unidentified patient is in isolation in Maryland.
It is with a great deal of sorrow that Historic City News reports the passing of a true St Augustine leader, former Mayor Edward George Mussallem. Eddy passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the age of 97. He was a lifelong St. Augustine resident, businessman, and civic leader, born in 1924 to Lebanese immigrants, Abraham and Olga Mussallem.
