Youth Ambassadors Appreciation Day
Historic City News was watching as a proclamation was read by Mayor Joseph L. Boles, Jr., declaring June 11, 2012 to be St Augustine’s 450th Youth Ambassadors Appreciation Day during the regular meeting of the St Augustine City Commission Monday evening.






St. Johns County Fire Rescue spokesman Matthew Sara reported to Historic City News that units responded to a single-vehicle crash at approximately 2:10 p.m. today, in the southbound lane of Interstate 95; approximately 3 miles south of SR-206.
The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind reported to Historic City News that three employers were honored during its first annual “Outstanding Employer of the Year” event on May 30; recognizing campus and business partners that participate in the school’s Career Development Program.
A mural, “The Secret River” based on the book of the same name by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, produced by a group of 15 children of all ages and led by regional artist Eddie White, will be featured when the St Johns County Public Library debuts an exhibit of artworks from all parts of the county.
School is out, but Historic City News has learned about a dedicated group of local middle school students who continued learning about Florida’s legislative protocol and procedures when they participated in a mock session at the St Johns County Auditorium in St Augustine on Friday, June 8.
St Johns County Sheriff David Shoar, who will be returned to office, without opposition for the second time in three elections, along with sixty-six other members of the Florida Sheriff’s Association, are under the microscope by Unified Sportsmen of Florida and one of the most powerful citizen lobbies in America — the National Rifle Association.
Beginning July 1, Historic City News readers who reside in St Augustine and St Johns County will be able to present their ID and take the Legacy Tour of Flagler College, without charge, as part of the upcoming 125th anniversary celebration of the Hotel Ponce de Leon.
