A major change to the county’s comprehensive plan is set to happen this Tuesday, July 17th. The county commissioners will be asked to approve this change for the Grand Oaks proposed development located on SR-16 near the outlet malls.
Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Monica R. Reifeiss, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.
Be alert to lane closures and temporary detours, as well as increased congestion in these areas. FDOT employees and contractors will be working on the roadways and need your full attention.
Tracy J. Hannah and Al Aldrich informed Historic City News that, following a meeting between the founding members of Vilano Action Network and the board of directors of North Shores Improvement Association, an agreement has been reached for an affiliation that will allow the Vilano Action Network to tap into the knowledge, experience and connections of the nearly 80-year-old North Shores organization.
Letter: Please cover the next Fish Island PUD meeting

I noticed there wasn’t any coverage of the City of St. Augustine Planning and Zoning board’s most recent meeting on July 3rd to determine if a PUD should be granted to DR Horton to develop the Fish Island peninsula; south of the SR-312 bridge on Anastasia Island.
Teresa Monson informed local Historic City News reporters that, for a sixth consecutive year, the St. Johns River Water Management District’s Governing Board approved a tentative budget that reduces the millage rate for taxpayers while continuing to provide significant funds for programs and projects to ensure sustainable water resources, increase water conservation and protect water quality in springs and other priority water bodies.
TECO Peoples Gas Company advised local Historic City News reporters that they are in the process of making emergency repairs to a natural gas line that runs beneath Hypolita Street in downtown St Augustine. The repairs necessary may not be complete before Friday, according to the advisory.
In her latest failure as a legal adviser to the City of St Augustine board of city commissioners, City Attorney Isabelle C. Lopez was silent during a vote called by Vice Mayor Todd Neville to move forward with plans to “contextualize” the city’s 1879 Confederate Soldiers Memorial.
Historic City News readers will find that, starting today, Monday July 9th and continuing through Saturday morning July 14th, parking on King Street between St. George Street and Charlotte Street will be prohibited between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
