With spring just around the corner, the City of St. Augustine reminds Historic City News readers that our popular weekend festival season will soon return.  Romanza’s Celtic Festival and parade kicks-off March 13-15, followed by the Lions Seafood Festival, March 20-22, and Rotary Club’s Rhythm and Ribs, March 27-29.

The Historic Architectural Review Board in St Augustine voted unanimously this week to wait until its April 16th meeting to decide whether to issue a “certificate of appropriateness” for the proposed construction of a new memorial to U.S. Colored Troops from the local area.

Jo-Lee Manning, executive director of the Justice Coalition of Northeast Florida, joined hundreds of victims of previous crimes today during the third annual Survivors Speak rally in Tallahassee.  Their goal is to push for legislation that could prevent offenders from hurting more people.

When Historic City News reported the January 17, 2020 funeral for US Army veteran John Meade Jr at the National Cemetery in Jacksonville, we were sure that would be the end of the story, and we were wrong.  After nothing short of a two-week manhunt by the St Augustine Police Department came up with nothing except that Meade died homeless and alone, it appeared certain that the discovery he was an honorably discharged veteran was all that could be learned about the mystery man.

Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.

Historic City News learned today that the City of St. Augustine is receiving a $50,000 grant from the Florida Division of Historical Resources to fund a historic site survey of areas in West Augustine, as well as areas to the north around Fort Mose.

St Johns County Board of Commissioners reported to Historic City News that members of a Florida Department of Transportation project team will begin work soon on a major resurfacing project in the City of St Augustine.
