Battle of Midway commemoration ceremony
A group of local Historic City News readers, recalling their service in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II, and that of their families, attended a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at Naval Station Mayport commemorating the Battle of Midway that occurred June 4th through June 7th of 1942.


Laurie Sanderson reported the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations to Historic City News where the Florida Department of Transportation will be conducting roadwork that is expected to have an impact on driving, beginning this morning and continuing through the coming week.
Although elementary and middle school grades are not expected to be released until this summer, and high school grades will not be announced until later in the year, the St Johns County School District is already crowing about student scores on the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test announced to Historic City News earlier today.
From Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14, the City of St Augustine has notified Historic City News that K&S Tree Service will be trimming trees within the right-of-way along streets lying in the quadrant between US-1 and San Marco Avenue from Picolata Road – SR-16 south to West Castillo Drive.
Pat Syeles announced details to Historic City News about the June Romanza Gathering in St Augustine; the last before their annual summer hiatus. Romanza Gatherings will resume in September.
Because of the impending weather associated with Tropical Storm Andrea, the City of St Augustine reported to Historic City News that tonight’s Concert in the Plaza performance, which was to include a screening of a 1964 episode of “Route 66” shot in town, has been postponed.
