Historic City News has learned that earlier today, Leonard Skinner, the high school gym teacher who inspired Lynyrd Skynyrd’s band name, has died at a nursing home in Riverside at age 77.
Public Affairs Specialist Karen Pan informed Historic City News local St. Johns County news reporters that the hours of operation at the St. Johns County Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road transfer stations will be reduced on Saturdays starting October 2, 2010.
Community Awareness Coordinator Kim Brumfield has invited local Historic City News readers to participate in this month’s Betty Griffin Social Club gathering to be held Thursday September 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
Organizers of Jax India Fest 2010 told Historic City News reporters that the second annual heritage event will be held this year on October 16th from 3:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at Metropolitan Park, 1410 Gator Bowl Boulevard in Jacksonville.

The St. Johns County Park and Recreation Department and the William Bartram Scenic and Historic Highway Management Council reported to Historic City News that they will be holding the first of what they hope will be many annual Old Settlers Reunions.
