Obituary: Jack Ortagus

Norbert John “Jack” Ortagus, Jr., age 77, of St. Augustine passed away at the Bailey Family Center for Caring on April 15, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.

West Augustine shooter denied bond Saturday

Historic City News was informed by Commander Chuck Mulligan last week that 36-year-old Johnny Lawrence Williams, Jr., the man wanted in connection with the April 5th shooting that left 24-year-old Jamie Wilson and 18-year-old Keiwuan Murray dead, has been located in Jacksonville and arrested on a warrant charging him with two counts of murder.

Mayor says city is serious about traffic calming measures

Thursday evening a group of St Augustine and North Beach residents gathered at the First Church of the Nazarene to discuss the potential traffic calming effects likely if the city were to close access from May Street northbound onto Douglas Street and Magnolia Avenue.

Frontier returns to county with flights to two major markets

Frontier Airlines begins new non-stop service to two destinations today in St. Augustine. The carrier will begin non-stop flights to Chicago-O’Hare and Philadelphia. Flights to Chicago operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays while flights to Philadelphia operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Having waived extradition, Murray arrives in St Augustine

The 28-year-old Jacksonville man who has been the focus of a weeklong manhunt that took St Johns County detectives as far as Aiken, South Carolina, was returned to the Neil J Perry Criminal Justice Complex in St Augustine thirty-minutes ago; he was officially booked into the St Johns County Detention Facility on criminal traffic charges.

St Augustine Police Department Investigations Supervisor, Sergeant Jason Etheredge, reported to Historic City News that the body of a 50-year-old man believed to be homeless was discovered this morning on the fort green at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.
