Miner vote mirrors Escambia commissioners
Yesterday, commissioners in Escambia County turned down the Staffing Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant — the same week that St. Johns County commissioners accepted the federal money; complete with pre-attached strings.



Historic City News observed members of the St. Johns County Board of Commissioners vote yesterday to accept a federal SAFER grant, which provides funding for 12 new firefighter positions for the next two years.
The St. Johns County Tourist Development Council reported to Historic City News that they will hold two workshops to assist not-for-profit groups in applying for funding support for special events aimed at attracting visitors to St. Johns County.
During Monday’s meeting of the St. Johns County Civic Association Roundtable, Historic City News reporters were on hand when the Sheriff’s budget drew fire; citing that it is heavy with jail expenses.
In a workshop that heard more from the podium than the dais, Historic City News reporters listened for over an hour as citizens spoke their mind about the ongoing plans to reconnect the Castillo and bayfront.
Alternative 12-A relevant to the “Reconnecting the Castillo and Bayfront” plan will be addressed in a one-hour workshop immediately prior to Monday night’s City Commission meeting.
Historic City News will be watching as Assistant City Attorney Carlos Mendoza presents the much debated horse-drawn carriage ordinance to the city commission tomorrow night on first reading.
