This week a more elaborate scheme resulted in the theft of over $1,200.00 worth of fuel — just across the street.

26 year old Eric Ryan Vaughn is in custody pending $5,000.00 bond for charges stemming from a reported attempt to defraud a former employer by making unauthorized charges to the company’s account as well as two previous outstanding warrants.
According to the information reported to Deputy Michael Stevens, Vaughn was making purchases of copper tubing from a local distributor in St. Augustine and charging the purchases to his former employer’s account — after he was no longer employed and without the company’s permission.

The Hastings Manor apartments were the scene of an apparent burglary attempt sometime after 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Bouchard was called to the scene of one apartment where the resident heard noises outside. An unknown male suspect was seen fleeing on foot after the resident went outside to investigate the noise.
Two separate reports of auto burglaries were answered by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Northwest Sector Patrol Division yesterday; a global positioning system (GPS) device was stolen in each burglary.
Another similarity – the owner of each burglarized vehicle reported to deputies that their vehicles were left unlocked overnight.
Sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Monday, a resident of the apartments located on Whispering Circle reported that two of his vehicles were burglarized, according to an incident report filed by Deputy Jared Monie on yesterday.
Both a 1990 JEEP Wrangler and 2002 Chrysler convertible sedan owned by the victim had been slashed into and the contents strewn about the front seat. Although it was apparent that the vehicle glove compartments had been rummaged through, the owner could not determine that anything of value was missing.
A fifteen year old white male wearing a baseball cap and a gray sweatshirt with the number “4†on the back was seen riding a bicycle through a quiet neighborhood in the area of Abbey and Varella Avenue Saturday morning.
That juvenile is now suspected in the commission of several thefts according to an incident report filed by St. Johns County Deputy Jeremy Russell.
