St Johns County has declared a mandatory evacuation in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Irma effective at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9th.

This evening, Governor Rick Scott received a full update on Hurricane Irma at the State Emergency Operations Center. The Governor checked in with Historic City News as he traveled the state today to meet with local officials, ensure communities have all the resources they may need, and to encourage families and visitors to be fully prepared.

Hurricane Irma is moving toward the west-northwest at 16 mph, and this general motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days, according to reports received by Historic City News at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 6, 2017.

In preparation for Hurricane Irma, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners informed local Historic City News reporters that they have declared a Local State of Emergency at the September 5, 2017 regular meeting.

As Historic City News readers are aware, Hurricane Irma has strengthened into a Category 5 Hurricane and is currently moving west across the Atlantic Ocean. While we hope for the best, there is a possibility that Irma could have a severe impact on Northeast Florida, and we must be prepared for the worst.

A 25-year-old Wales Center, Michigan man, Trent Nicholas Liniarski, has been found guilty of two-counts of making an obscene communication, one count of cruelty to a child, and one count of using a two-way communications device to facilitate or further the commission of a felony. Each of the four crimes is a third-degree felony.

Historic City News received a report from Fire Rescue Captain Jeremy Robshaw that emergency medical personnel responded to the St Johns County Detention Facility yesterday to discover a 39-year-old inmate dead at the scene.
