Celebrate National Voter Registration Day Tuesday
St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes invites all Historic City News readers to prepare themselves for next year’s elections this Tuesday, September 24, when she and her staff will celebrate National Voter Registration Day.



The regular meeting of the St Johns County Board of Commissioners was held Tuesday September 17, 2013, in the County Auditorium in the St Johns County Administration Palace located at 500 San Sebastian View in St Augustine.
St Johns County has made a very substantial investment in its County Administrator, 63-year-old Michael Wanchick, who relocated with his family to St Johns County for the job in 2007. With no advance notice to the public or media, Commission Chairman John “Jay” Morris added an agenda item during the Tuesday September 17th meeting of the Board of County Commissioners to review the County Administrator’s performance and award him with a $21,000 pay raise.
Before any business was conducted by the St Johns County Board of Commissioners this morning, aside from the opening ceremonial proclamations, something new happened — in furtherance of the goal to achieve government in the sunshine, public comments were heard first on the agenda; before any elected official or appointed government official was heard to speak.
One Republican organization and the Executive Committee of the Republican Party in St Johns County reported to Historic City News that proposed resolutions were reached among their representatives expressing rejection of what they see as federal use of Race to the Top program funding to coerce implantation of the Common Core Standards in Florida’s education system.
