When Development Director Katie Bohnett reached out to Historic City News yesterday to officially announce the retirement plans of Barbara Petersen, president of the Florida First Amendment Foundation, our editor, Michael Gold, said that his own retirement, planned for next year, helped him deal with the clear sense of loss of one of our best soldiers on the front line of protecting the public’s right to oversee its government and hold it accountable to the electorate.

Criminal mischief crime spree on Anastasia Island when graffiti reported at 29 locations

St. Augustine Police Department Public Information Officer Cecilia Aiple reported several recent incidences of criminal mischief, including graffiti and physical damage to city-owned and private property.  The Department is asking Historic City News readers to come forward with information that will help them identify the criminals responsible for this activity.

Daniel Yordanov came to conquer America with his art

On a tour to promote his art in the United States, the famous plastic artist, Daniel Yordanov, arrived in Saint Augustine, with a unique style applying the mixed technique on the canvas.  Yordanov has titled it “El Murmullo de Las Piedras” where with a majesty of the brush he manages to move the great works of the classic and the gothic of the place where for thousands of years they sleep until he manages to take them, highlighted on a canvas, to any part of the world.

FDOT road repairs and maintenance report

Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.

Be alert to lane closures and temporary detours, as well as increased congestion in these areas.  FDOT employees and contractors will be working on the roadways and need your full attention.

Florida Supreme Court disciplines eight attorneys

Historic City News received the following summary of disciplinary orders issued against members of The Florida Bar between May 30 and June 20, 2019.  The Florida Supreme Court in recent court orders disciplined eight attorneys – disbarring two, revoking the license of one and suspending five. Two attorneys received additional discipline with one ordered to pay restitution and the other put on probation. Disciplinary revocation is tantamount to disbarment.
