District recognizes school-related employees
Dr Joseph Joyner forwarded to Historic City News the names of St Johns County’s school-related “Employees of the Year” for 2012-2013; outstanding county employees who enhance the educational experience for the children whose lives they touch



St Johns County Cultural Council, the county’s designated local arts agency, periodically reports upcoming cultural events to Historic City News reporters for the benefit of our readers.
Events and activities happening in March at the Guana-Tolomato-Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve of interest to Historic City News readers were announced by spokesperson, Emily Jane Murray.
Legislative Assistant John Kotyk informed local Historic City News reporters that St Johns County’s District 17 House member, Ronald “Doc” Renuart, has been recognized with a “2012 Florida Legislative Award” for his efforts to advance the mission of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.
Yesterday, the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta upheld a district court injunction that bars Florida from making people who apply for benefits under the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program to first submit to drug-screening.
With all the ballyhoo over what does and what does not fit the general description of a “450th Commemoration Legacy Project”, ostensibly an enduring asset that will remain beyond the 2015 birthday party, this will probably “take the cake” as the strangest.
Historic City News was informed that Dr Barbara A Purdy will lead a discussion of Florida’s wet sites and how they have increased our knowledge of the state’s ancient inhabitants when the St Augustine Archaeological Association holds its March 5th meeting.
