The City of St Augustine held an unusual special meeting this morning; the first held under enhanced restrictions imposed by the White House, Governor DeSantis, and local ordinances to “flatten the curve” of the spread of the novel coronavirus. Through technology, the members and staff participated from disparate locations with very few technical interruptions.

Easter Vigil Mass in the basilica is among the Vatican’s more evocative ceremonies. Celebrants enter in darkness, except for candlelight. The pontiff holds a tall Easter candle, which is lit for him. Then the basilica’s lights are turned on, in a sign of joy. But this night, when the basilica was illuminated, all its emptiness was painfully visible, and the footsteps of the pope and his small entourage on the marble floor could clearly be heard as they walked in slow procession toward the altar.
Wells Fargo’s small business customers spent much of the week expressing their frustration with the bank after they were told that they might be better off going elsewhere for a Paycheck Protection Program loan.

Historic City News learned through a CBS News report, that the price of a dozen Midwest large eggs rose from $1.03 at the beginning of March to a record-setting $3.09 by the end of the month. Even though eggs may not yet be widely out of stock, some prices have seen a huge surge in recent months.
Whetstone Chocolates reported to Historic City News that their local business is thanking local hospital staff, police, and other emergency workers during the COVID-19 pandemic with Easter chocolates to help brighten their spirits.
