Avoid a ticket tomorrow
Florida Highway Patrol Captain Keith Gaston reported to Historic City News that troopers would be conducting “Operation Checkered Flag” in St Augustine and St Johns County tomorrow, July 6, starting at 10:00 a.m. and concluding at 6:00 p.m.






The St Johns County School District is asking Historic City News readers in St Augustine and St Johns County to register their kindergarten-age children and returning students to the school system before school starts on August 20.
Keepers of the Coast, a local non-profit dedicated to promoting coastal stewardship and the conservation of coastal habitat, are recruiting volunteers for the 4th Annual “Day After” Beach Clean-Up on Thursday, July 5th.

Sonia Colyer announced to Historic City News in St Augustine that volunteers are needed for the 2012 St Johns County sea turtle wash-back program; providing assistance to distressed juvenile sea turtles that have washed ashore because they became entangled in seaweed — commonly following a storm.
Vilano Beach merchants and Town Center planners announced to local Historic City News reporters that this month’s Sunset Celebration, held on the first Saturday at the Vilano Beach Pier, would feature dozens of market vendors and Town Center businesses.
According to St Johns County Human Resources, as of May 7, there are 1187 people on the county payroll, excluding employees of the five constitutional officers; and, of those reported, 349 earn $45,000, plus benefits, per year — or more.
During the regular meeting of the St Augustine Planning and Zoning Board yesterday, Flagler College lost their request to proceed with an amended Planned Unit Development to develop a 20,000 square foot communications facility in Historic Preservation District 3 at Cordova and Cuna streets.
