Wallis credibility attacked during public comments

Historic City News reviewed the tape of Monday’s meeting of the St. Augustine City Commission when a local attorney with the firm of Upchurch, Bailey and Upchurch, had his financial credibility attacked by outspoken local gadfly, Maureen L. Ortagus.

At Monday night’s meeting of the St. Augustine City Commission, Historic City News reporters watched as City employee Adrian Paolini was recognized for his heroic efforts in rescuing a homeless man from a fire.

Kids Fit Club kick-off Wednesday 19th

Recreation Superintendent Betsy Clarkson reported to Historic City News that the St. Johns County Recreation and Parks Department has partnered with the St. Augustine Elks Lodge 829 to kick-off the free “Kids Fit Club” program on Wednesday, January 19th at 2:30 p.m.

Burn ban extended seven more days

Jeremy Robshaw, Public Information Officer with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, informed Historic City News local reporters that after consideration of current fire conditions, County Commissioners have adopted a resolution which authorizes the county administrator to extend a burn ban for St. Johns County effective tomorrow.

Historian credited with Fort Mosa rediscovery dies

Historic City News has learned that Frederick Eugene “Jack” Williams, III, the local historian who rediscovered the site of Fort Mosa, died January 7th of cancer and complications after a fall.

100 year celebration for St. Benedict church

Father Thomas S. Willis, Pastor of the Cathedral Parish of St. Augustine, has announced to Historic City News reporters the centennial anniversary of the construction and blessing of St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church in Lincolnville.

City announces Arbor Day commemoration

The City of St. Augustine reported to Historic City News that they will commemorate Arbor Day on Friday January 21st with the planting of four Live Oak trees in the community garden area of the Willie Galimore Recreation Center located at 399 South Riberia Street.
