Lastinger Family Foundation makes endowment gift to FSDB

Nancy Bloch, Executive Director of Communications & Public Relations for the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind informed local Historic City News reporters of an endowment gift of $250,000 from the Lastinger Family Foundation in honor of Dr. Thomas M. Zavelson, who provides invaluable service to the school as a member of the FSDB Board of Trustees. The Foundation encourages the FSDB community and supporters to donate as well, as they will match donations dollar for dollar, up to a maximum amount of $250,000.

Wanchick on losing end of 3-2 split vote to renew employment agreement

A new county administrator is in the offing for St Johns County, a trend observed in other local governments in northeast Florida. Palm Coast said goodbye to Jim Landon, the City of Bunnell has a new city manager, and the Flagler County Board of Commissioners replaced their county administrator with Jerry Cameron; a former assistant county administrator under Wanchick.

The enclosed letter and documents have been mailed to Michael A. Lischio with the St. Johns County Property Appraiser. He will investigate for Homestead fraud, etc. You may wish to contact him and request records of his investigation, as I and others hope you will publish a story about Valdes’ hypocrisy and that he is corrupt and cannot follow his own rules.

The time to sink or swim has come for 69-year-old Michael David Wanchick, the often-controversial St Johns County administrator hired July 30, 2007. The current effective term of the county administrator’s Professional Services Agreement expires on January 1, 2020.

Convicted felon arrested and now faces nine new weapons charges

Just before midnight last night, May 18 at 11:45 p.m., 43-year-old James Robert Hancock, who reported his residence as 3091 Usina Road in St Augustine, was arrested and taken into custody by St Johns County sheriff’s deputies. He is being held without bond as of Sunday morning; facing 9-counts of possession of a weapon. Each count is a second-degree felony.
