Laurie Sanderson reported the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations to Historic City News where the Florida Department of Transportation will be conducting roadwork that is expected to have an impact on driving, beginning this morning and continuing through the coming week.

While St. Augustine’s 450th anniversary has brought immense challenges and international attention, the city’s outsider Mayor looks to prove she is up to the task. Nancy Shaver isn’t your typical politician. In fact, before beating out incumbent Joe Boles and subsequently being sworn in as the new mayor of the City of St. Augustine in December 2014, Shaver had never held political office. That is, unless you count the time she was student council president of her high school back in the early 1960s.
The Woman’s Exchange of St. Augustine will offer visitors a special free program on Sept. 5, during the city-wide celebration of St. Augustine’s 450th birthday – a tribute to Governor Patrick Tonyn, the last British governor in North America, south of Canada. He ruled the British Colony at St. Augustine in East Florida from 1774 until the 1785 when he left for Britain at the end of the British occupation.
Fifty-one years ago, on September 10, 1964, Hurricane Dora made landfall near St. Augustine. This was the first hurricane landfall in St. Augustine during the era of modern record keeping. During its life, Dora killed 5 people and caused $250 million in damage.
Unless the claim is simple enough to be managed by either the City Attorney or Assistant City Attorney, an outside law firm or lawyer, usually from out of town, is hired to provide a defense when the City gets sued.
St. Johns County Emergency Operations Center Director, Linda Stoughton, has informed local Historic City News reporters that we will continue to receive a situation updates automatically as Tropical Storm Erika continues its path in the Atlantic Ocean towards land. Currently, the Emergency Operation Center remains at Activation Level 3; which means that they are monitoring the situation.
