UPDATE: Shortly after 10:00 a.m. today, Benjamin Colenn Lightsey, 30, 541 N. Horseshoe Rd., turned himself in with his attorney. He was charged with first degree murder and was booked into the County Jail where he is being held without bond.
Historic City News has received word from the St. Johns County Medical Examiner’s Office that the death of Vilano Beach swimmer Melissa Lee Lightsey was in deed a homicide.

What started as a petty theft of beer escalated into violation of probation charges, resisting arrest and felony charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and habitual driving while license suspended.
The St Johns County Sheriff’s Office has informed Historic City News that they are currently seeking the whereabouts of a 36 year-old St Johns County Woman who was last reported swimming in chest deep water at Vilano Beach.
Historic City News has learned that Sheriff’s detectives and U.S. Marshals are seeking a 46-year old St. Johns County man in connection with a homicide that occurred nearly 18 years ago.
