Help wanted: Bi-annual homeless count

Mary Lawrence with People United to Stop Homelessness of St. Johns County, told Historic City News local community reporters that the Emergency Services Homeless Coalition will conduct its HUD required bi-annual homeless count on January 25, 2011 from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Approval sketchy on new bayfront pier

As the post-opening final touches are applied, five years after the huge Bridge of Lions rehabilitation project began, Historic City News readers have asked about the new bayfront pier which was constructed to the north of the west entrance plaza — more questions than answers remain.

The City of St. Augustine told local Historic City News reporters that it is hoping to add the Nelmar Terrace National Register Historic District as the seventh neighborhood to be designated a Historic District.

Public Affairs Manager for the North Florida Transportation Planning Organization, Marci Larson, has invited Historic City News readers to participate in a study to identify popular destinations, preferred routes and obstructions to bicycling within and around the City of St. Augustine.

Historic City News local reporters were informed today that Firefighter Luis Etchenique was selected by the Awards Committee as the Firefighter of the Year for 2010 based on nominations received from their peers.
