Communications & Events Coordinator Cindy Walker reported to Historic City News that the City of St. Augustine Beach’s “Sustainability and Environmental Planning Advisory Committee” has invited our readers to view the film “The Smog of the Sea” and participate in an engaging community discussion.
Last year as the five members of the St Augustine City Commission left for their typical Christmas and New Years holiday “break”, the 14,000 citizens who call the city home had no idea that under the cover of darkness there was betrayal afoot.
The St. Augustine City Commission will convene its regular meeting on Monday, October 14th starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Alcazar Room, City Hall, 75 King Street. Arrive early to claim your free parking space and a seat, as tonight’s agenda will attract a larger than average crowd of active citizens.
While October 14 is a nationally recognized Monday holiday for the observance of Columbus Day, offices for the City of St. Augustine will remain open for business.

I find that many children in our public schools are not being taught about American Exceptionalism.
Most Historic City News readers love Southern comfort food. So, when two Jacksonville entrepreneurs, Gus Evans, who at the time was laid off from Elkins Constructors, and partner Scott Moore, who at the time was laid off from Winn-Dixie Stores, came up with the concept for an eatery that would be known for its biscuits and chicken breasts, we knew that they were clearly on the path to a bright future for their business — Maple Street Biscuit Company. Today it was announced that Maple Street Biscuit Co has been purchased by Cracker Barrel in a reported $36 million deal.
Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.
Be alert to lane closures and temporary detours, as well as increased congestion in these areas. FDOT employees and contractors will be working on the roadways and need your full attention.
