St Johns County School Board member Beverly Slough reported to Historic City News this week that an accurate Census count in 2020 is critical to establishing the availability of federal funds for our students. Our county’s youth benefit through funding for public education, school programs, and school district planning.

Dear Historic City News editor:
We recently helped a single mother who is also a service-connected disabled veteran in St. Johns County. Her home was in active foreclosure because she had fallen victim to the scheme of a fraudulent debt consolidation company.
Barbara Golden reported to Historic City News from the Visitors and Convention Bureau this week that businesses and events are open on Florida’s Historic Coast. There are a few virtual events taking place and several outdoor activities and events available for your participation.
Melissa Wissel, Communications Manager for the City of St Augustine, informed local Historic City News reporters that the procurement of Fish Island has been completed by the State of Florida, and the City of St. Augustine is engaged in the process of obtaining a lease agreement and creating a land management plan.
It has been 16-years since we made an endorsement for this important constitutional officer and over that time our volunteer editorial board has paid attention to the current officeholder so we could be prepared when this day finally arrived.
Historic City News received word this week of an altercation that occurred Wednesday night during a political debate between Robert Hardwick and Chris Strickland, the two candidates for St Johns County Sheriff whose names appear on the ballot during the Republican Primary Election August 18, 2020.
