Hibiscus could become official flower
When the City of St. Augustine Commission convenes Monday, Historic City News readers will learn if the hibiscus will become the city’s official flower and if “red and yellow” will be designated as the official city colors, among other things.








St. Augustine Visitors and Convention Bureau Communications Director Jay Humphreys reminds Historic City News readers that tonight is “First Friday” and the King Street Art District will be alive with entertainment.
Public Information Coordinator Cathy DuPont informed local Historic City News reporters that the flags in front of City Hall will be lowered to half-staff on Friday, August 12th in honor of former St. Augustine Mayor Walter Bugeski.
Historic City News reporters will be watching when a multi-party memorandum for a new seawall, 12 feet seaward of the existing Avenida Menendez seawall, goes before the St. Augustine City Commissioners for approval on Monday night.


Willie F. Brantley, Jr. and David Renwick, owners of The British Pub located at 213 Anastasia Boulevard, reported to Historic City News that their manager was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash while she was closing the pub in the wee hours this morning.
For the first time since the late 1930’s, the St. Augustine Port, Waterway, and Beach District, has approved the payment of District funds to dredge our federally-designated channel, according to Port Commissioner Jay Bliss.
