Miner appointed number-two as dust settles in county clerk’s office

When the St Johns County voters elected Clerk of Court, Hunter Conrad, they did so over a more experienced chief deputy who was already in office, George Larue.  Now Conrad has turned his back on those voters, surrendering his elected office a year early.  He has accepted an appointed position made vacant after the abrupt firing of the embattled County Administrator; a controversial move made without advance public notice.

As of February 1st, Historic City News learned that Airbnb, one of the world’s largest marketplaces for unique, authentic places to stay and things to do, had entered into agreements to collect and remit local bed taxes on behalf of its hosts in Volusia and Clay counties.  St Johns County Tax Collector Dennis Hollingsworth represents one of a minority of counties who refuse to sign.
