Dear Historic City News editor:
I am a veteran teacher of 25 years. At my school, we have a motto – “Do the good, learn the true, and love the beautiful” – that we say every day. I try to lead my students by example, and it is the “do the good” part of the motto that keeps echoing in my head.
Historic City News articles show that graffiti has been an issue in downtown St Augustine in recent years. Under instructions from city manager John Regan, the local police department has been quiet about such incidents, offering little or no information to the media.
On Saturday afternoon, Historic City News associate editor, Don Louis, reported that his lunch plans had to be cancelled because the restaurant where he was going had been notified that an employee came into contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.
On August 1, 2011, Historic City News reported that despite the “hiring chill” and budget shortage at that time, ex-county manager, Michael Wanchick, conducted a “nationwide search” for someone to fill a “newly created” position — Director of Economic Development. Wanchick hired Melissa Sue Glasgow.

Historic City News learned that a recent Dreamstime article, published in the Chicago Tribune, included Fort Mose in St. Augustine, Florida as an American landmark.
Hundreds of protesters, many of whom were white college boys and girls, marched from the Bridge of Lions, down St George Street in St. Augustine, as participants in a “Black Lives Matter” demonstration held Wednesday, June 10.

I look back on 40-years of Republican Party affiliation, long before the Party was popular in northeast Florida, and wonder what the folks who taught me what it meant to be self-sufficient, accountable, and to strive to be a good citizen, would have to say about the politicians who hold themselves out to be “Republicans” in today’s world.
