Florida Supreme Court disciplined 20 attorneys in recent court orders

The Florida Bar, the state’s guardian for the integrity of the legal profession, announced to Historic City News that the Florida Supreme Court disciplined 20 attorneys in recent court orders issued from November 21 to December 28, 2020, disbarring four, revoking the licenses of three, suspending 12 and reprimanding one. One attorney was placed on probation and two must pay restitution.

Defense lawyers say proposed bill is attack on the First Amendment and the right to assemble

The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers informed local Historic City News reporters that they oppose legislation urged by Gov. Ron DeSantis addressing “affrays, riots, routs, and unlawful assemblies” as a too broad an attack on the First Amendment and the right to assemble. The proposed legislation is a solution in search of a problem, the Association said.

Local attorney lands in jail when he exchanges narcotics for legal fees

The FDLE Tri-County Narcotics Task Force and the Florida Highway Patrol, arrested 33-year-old criminal defense attorney, Michael Stover of St. Johns County, and charged him with purchasing Adderall, a controlled substance.  Stover served as an Assistant State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit before transitioning to private practice.  Historic City News learned that the drug Adderall is an amphetamine that requires a prescription to obtain.
