I wanted to provide an update to local Historic City News subscribers and share some links where you can obtain information about COVID-19, including when and where you can get vaccines in St. Johns County and other counties in Florida.
St. Johns County officials reported to Historic City News that they have received an allotment of 1,950 Pfizer vaccines from the State of Florida this week. Online COVID-19 Vaccination Registration reopens tomorrow, Thursday January 21 at 9:00 a.m., for vaccination appointments on January 22, 25, and 27.
The Florida Bar, the state’s guardian for the integrity of the legal profession, announced to Historic City News that the Florida Supreme Court disciplined 20 attorneys in recent court orders issued from November 21 to December 28, 2020, disbarring four, revoking the licenses of three, suspending 12 and reprimanding one. One attorney was placed on probation and two must pay restitution.
A 54-year-old Jacksonville man, Joseph Vincent DiMaggio, remains in jail tonight, held without bond, after his arrest by St Augustine Police Saturday afternoon. DiMaggio, whose address was reported as 2950 Napa Valley Ct in Jacksonville, was booked at 7:42 p.m.
The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers informed local Historic City News reporters that they oppose legislation urged by Gov. Ron DeSantis addressing “affrays, riots, routs, and unlawful assemblies” as a too broad an attack on the First Amendment and the right to assemble. The proposed legislation is a solution in search of a problem, the Association said.
Florida Department of Transportation Community Outreach Specialist Allen Nelson has updated Historic City News with the weekly lane closure report containing information regarding ongoing construction projects and traffic impacts for the coming week. The FDLE Tri-County Narcotics Task Force and the Florida Highway Patrol, arrested 33-year-old criminal defense attorney, Michael Stover of St. Johns County, and charged him with purchasing Adderall, a controlled substance. Stover served as an Assistant State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit before transitioning to private practice. Historic City News learned that the drug Adderall is an amphetamine that requires a prescription to obtain.
The Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, Inc. are pleased to announce their 2020 Volunteer of the Year, Captain Adam Morley. Currently serving as vice president of the organization, Morley was recognized for his service to the Friends of A1A and presented with the annual volunteer service award, at the Coastal Policy Center in Marineland, Florida last month.
