Hey, my name is Kaiden, and I’m one of the homeless in Saint Augustine.  I am 18 years old, and I have been living here for about two months.

I just wanted to bring my experience with the homeless shelters here in St Augustine to your attention, specifically Port in the Storm.

Historic City News has learned that tensions are continuing to flare between members of the St Johns County Republican Executive Committee following recent comments by the local party’s Chairman Blake Paterson that voters in Darryl Boyer’s State House District 19 would not elect a black man to that office.

Community Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation representative Michelle Cardinal invited local Historic City News subscribers to tip their hats and celebrate the 149th running of the Kentucky Derby at St Augustine’s Tringali Barn tomorrow, Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with food, fashion, and fun.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services and the National Park Service will welcome 30 new citizens during a special naturalization ceremony this Friday, April 21st at 10:00 am.  A representative of Castillo de San Marcos National Monument informed Historic City News that the ceremony is being held, in part, to celebrate National Park Week.

As part of the Holy Week celebration, the second oldest Easter Parade in the nation was held in St Augustine.  The festivities have been a tradition for years enjoyed by thousands of spectators who fill San Marco Avenue, Aveneda Menendez, Cathedral Place, and Cordova Street — the main roads in the stately city.

Historic City News learned last week of the passing of former St Johns County Commission chairman, Fred Green.  He died on February 21st at the age of 95. Fred was born on August 2, 1927, in Wilmington, Delaware to Henry F Green, Sr, and Edith Shallcross Green.

Historic City News subscribers who were friends of the late Chief of the St Augustine Police Department George Thornton are invited to visit during an informal celebration of life planned from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. today, Sunday, February 26, 2023, at The Sandbar on Crescent Beach in St Augustine.

Historic City News subscribers are advised that beginning March 1, 2013, vehicles accessing St Johns County beaches will be required to have a properly attached beach driving pass between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each day.
