Sheriff releases report of arson against the Confederate memorial

Historic City News first reported on the arson attack against the 1879 Confederate Veterans Memorial on September 25th when the crime was reported. We requested the incident report from the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office, a copy of which was denied stating that this is an “active investigation”.  Deputies and investigators still have not found the person responsible, however, our second request for the incident report was delivered today. This is what information we were able to learn.

Isabelle Renault, President and CEO of St Johns County Chamber of Commerce, has announced to Historic City News that new members have been elected and seated to the chamber’s Board of Directors. Each of the elected board members’ terms are three years, and the Chamber’s fiscal year begins on the first day of October and ends on the last day of September.

During the City Commission meeting on Monday October 12, 2020, City Commissioner John Valdes was named to chair a new five-member committee whose purpose is to update the city’s flood mitigation code, building code, and zoning code, as they relate to flood protection.  To overstate the obvious, members of the commission agreed that there is a need to update the current code’s flood protection rules.
