Maureen Long, Secretary of the St. Johns County Civic Roundtable located in St. Augustine, informed local Historic City News reporters that yesterday, Monday, November 9th, the Roundtable held its November Meeting via an open Zoom conference call.
Kelly Wilson, spokesperson for the St Johns County Emergency Management department, reported to Historic City News the initial update of Tropical Storm Eta, the effects of which will be visible by tomorrow (Sunday) morning. The St Johns County Emergency Operations Center remains at Partial Activation Level: 2, Wilson reported.
How would you feel if you were babysitting your grandchild on Saturday night so that your 20-year-old son, who is working a double shift for minimum wage in a downtown tourism-driven business, tells you that he is not coming back to pick up his daughter until 10:30 – 11:00 p.m. at night?
With ballots representing 48-out-of-48 precincts reporting, Historic City News editor-in-chief, Michael Gold, stood by as the Supervisor of Elections in St Johns County, Vicky Oakes, posted her Election Day results at about 9:17:01 Tuesday night. This is the last year Gold plans to witness the process. He has completed the task every-other year for the past 20-years since he founded Historic City News in March 2000; but, this year, twenty-years later, he is excited to also report that he is retiring.
I told Mayor Upchurch that I took the opportunity to watch his interview with Tracey Eaton yesterday. He said some things that needed to be said – or, at least, I needed to hear him say. In the heat of battle, we can say or even do things that we would not normally say or do.
St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes reached out to Historic City News to remind our subscribers that early voting ended today, Saturday at 6:00 p.m. The November 3rd General Election is Tuesday. There is no early voting on Sunday or Monday before Election Day.
