Florida Department of Transportation Community Outreach Specialist Allen Nelson has updated Historic City News with the weekly lane closure report containing information regarding ongoing construction projects and traffic impacts for the coming week. Our readers and subscribers will be updated every Friday by 5:00 p.m., with some unavoidable exceptions and state holidays.
Florida Statutes 316.2045 and 337.406 prohibit the solicitation of charitable contributions on Florida roadways; however, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida has ruled that both statutes are unconstitutional, and, therefore, unenforceable. The case was brought on behalf of Peter Vigue.
There is no doubt that this year has hit all Historic City News subscribers hard with the COVID-19 Pandemic. Small businesses have had to close their doors, schools have had to reinvent themselves, and essential workers have had to work harder than ever.
This week the St Johns Cultural Council explores the County’s still vibrant rural communities, where you can enjoy traditional harvest-themed activities and experience the Gullah Geechee culture that strongly influences our culinary scene. During the annual Rails to Trails Festival, the SEA Community of Spuds, Elkton, and Armstrong, celebrates their connection to the Gullah Geechee Heritage Corridor.
St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes reminds our Historic City News subscribers that this year, as in every election year, “It is your vote, make it count!” If you have chosen to vote by mail, you only have a couple of days left to request that a Vote-by-Mail ballot be mailed to you. So, time is running out.
Monday was the first day of in-person early voting, in the General Election of 2020 being conducted locally by St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes.
Historic City News subscribers who drive on and enjoy St. Johns County’s outstanding public beaches are facing limitations to on-beach driving during the next few days, Some other beach activities may be curtailed due to the impact of expected high tides. If activated, any limitations will apply to all public beaches and could continue through next week.
Historic City News subscribers who hold property insurance policies through the National Flood Insurance Program will be happy to learn that the newly announced CRS Class 5 community fire rating will be of benefit to owners of flood-prone property on or after October 1, 2020.
