Within the last hour, Historic City News learned of a shooting with injuries near the Willie Galimore Center on the south end of Riberia Street. The Galimore Community Center is currently on lockdown with children inside as police search for the accused gunman.
Police are on the scene currently, and according to televised reports from the scene,

Historic City News readers who live in St Augustine Beach are invited to respond to two current surveys regarding how to handle canine rabies vaccination and tag issuance, as well as an increase from $74 to $230 per year for solid waste collection.

Historic City News was notified by the Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.
Be alert to lane closures and temporary detours, as well as increased congestion in these areas. FDOT employees and contractors will be working on the roadways and need your full attention.

Gerald (Jerry) Dennis Dixon passed away July 31, 2019, after an extended and courageous battle against leukemia. Born September 4, 1941, In Buffalo, New York, he attended public elementary and secondary schools in Springfield, Pennsylvania, and Denver, Colorado. He then attended Ft Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and completed his college education at the University of Colorado earning a degree in architecture.

St. Augustine attorney Katherine Upchurch passed away on July 28, 2019, she was 55 years old. She graduated from Emory University in 1985 with a BA degree in English. At Emory, she was a member of the Women’s Chorale. In 1988 she received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law. At Florida Law she was a member of the Moot Court team.

The Crown Plaza Hotel in Chicago was the scene of this year’s G-Festival convention; where the “G” stands for Godzilla! A large audience of fans from all over the world enjoyed the film “Mushino”, a creation of 18-year-old Raphael Cosme III, son of Historic City News photojournalist Raphael Cosme.

The Florida Department of Transportation reported to Historic City News that repairs have been completed on the southbound, outside lane of Interstate 95 at mile marker 298 after a major fire this morning that required detours and closed traffic at times through the day Wednesday.
