With Daytona Beach being dubbed the “World’s Most Famous Beach” since the 1920’s, and the business community there deciding that something had to be done to keep from losing that reputation; citizens, merchants and local government came together intent on reducing the eyesore of vagrants, the health hazards they bring with them, and criminal activity that follows transients and panhandlers.

Historic City News was notified that the St. Augustine Jewish Historical Society is mourning the February 16th death of Al Vorspan, a giant in the movement for Social Justice among Reform Jews. Vorspan, although not a rabbi himself, was arrested here in St. Augustine, along with 16 Rabbis, making for the largest mass arrest of Rabbis in U.S. history.
Two days before the first meeting of the St Augustine City Commission this year, before the mayor or any of the other three commissioners had met in the sunshine to discuss the Coquina Avenue Land Grab publicly, Commissioner Leanna Freeman was posting on social media and reaching out by e-mail to ask her followers to share their support, proclaiming, “I need three votes Monday”.
