Honoring the footprint of the Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors at Fort Marion

Steven Roberts, Director of Interpretation, Education, and Visitor Services for the National Park Service at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument announced the following exciting programs to Historic City News as part of Native American Heritage Month.  On November 16th and 17th, a collection of events will take place to remember and honor the Cheyenne and Arapaho warriors imprisoned at Fort Marion (Castillo de San Marcos) from 1875-1878.

Noreen Nickola-Williams, Director of the Office of Public Health Practice and Policy for the Florida Department of Health in St Johns County, reported to Historic City News Friday that in partnership with the Anastasia Mosquito Control District an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity has been detected within the southeast quadrant of St Johns County.

Leslie H. Smith, spokesperson for the Department of Lawyer Regulation of The Florida Bar informed local Historic City News reporters that the Florida Supreme Court has recently disciplined 12 attorneys, suspending five, reprimanding one, revoking the licenses of five, and admonishing one. Three reciprocal orders and one discipline order are reported prior to September 26th.

When you cast your ballot for the General Election in St Johns County, whether by mail, during Early Voting which started today, or on Election Day at your home precinct on November 8, 2022, in addition to a mixed bag of candidates running for municipal, county, regional, state and national offices, as part of a countywide precinct referendum, you will be asked to vote “for” or “against” a one-cent sales surtax.

Historic City News subscribers have their first opportunity to vote in person today as St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes commences Early Voting for the November 8, 2022, General Election. Early Voting runs through Saturday, November 5th, which includes two Saturdays and a Sunday. Regardless of your home precinct, you may vote early at any one of the eight designated Early Voting locations, open daily from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

St Johns County mourns the passing of Commissioner Paul Waldron

Historic City News learned that early this morning (Tuesday) St Johns County District 3 Commissioner Paul Waldron passed away.  Waldron’s health has been diminished since an extended battle with COVID-19 which left him hospitalized and bedridden just two years ago.  Further medical complications followed leaving him with limited mobility and depending on a walker as he continued his duties and appearances at events around the county.  In just a couple of weeks, on November 5th, he would have turned 54 years old.
