A “Kickoff Meeting” has been scheduled to discuss the upcoming South Ponte Vedra and Vilano Beach restoration projects and Historic City News readers are invited to participate.
Just before midnight last night, May 18 at 11:45 p.m., 43-year-old James Robert Hancock, who reported his residence as 3091 Usina Road in St Augustine, was arrested and taken into custody by St Johns County sheriff’s deputies. He is being held without bond as of Sunday morning; facing 9-counts of possession of a weapon. Each count is a second-degree felony.
Historic City News readers will have an opportunity to sound off about short-term vacation rentals inside the city limits of St Augustine on May 22, 2019 when the city commission convenes a special meeting this Wednesday.
Barbara McNees, President of the Board of the Cultural Council, informed local Historic City News reporters today that Andrew Witt, executive director of the St Johns Cultural Council, announced to the Board of Directors that he intends to retire at the end of December 2019. Witt joined the Cultural Council in October 2011.
Historic City News was notified by Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer, Allen Nelson, that traffic will be impacted at the following St Augustine and St Johns County locations where roadwork is being conducted.
Historic City News readers are encouraged to attend an on-site meeting on Thursday, May 16th from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., at 91 Coquina Avenue to discuss possible designs for the recently purchased Coquina Park property. City staff will be on hand to answer your questions and hear your ideas about the design and uses.

Despite that fact, the City may arrest you for creating art in public places today, even though such actions have twice been held unconstitutional in federal district court. The beauty and allure of the nation’s oldest city overcame the illegal harassment of local artists and provided the inspiration for 70 artists from across the Southeast to come here and participate in the 3rd Annual St. Augustine Plein Air Paint Out.
